Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the e-service in 64 districts of the country on November 14, 2011 under the Access to Information (A2I) program of the Office of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. After the inauguration, the activities of the e-service center at the front desk branch of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Barishal were fully started. An officer, an assistant programmer, two office assistants and two MLSSs are assigned to the front desk. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) is acting as the ICT focal point of the district.
As part of the activities of the district e-service center, other citizen and official applications were accepted at the front desk of this office along with the application for a copy of the record room. In case of duplicate application, the application is accepted and a receipt is immediately issued to the applicant. A duplicate copy is provided from the front desk on the date specified in the said receipt.
After receiving all types of citizen and official applications through the front desk under the activities of the district e-service center, the applicant is given a receipt along with the ID number and the probable date of receipt of the service. By providing this ID number, the applicant can come to the front desk and know the latest status of receiving the service directly, by SMS, by phone, by post and by e-mail.
Under e-service, there are 37 nodes in the LAN set up at the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Barishal. Each node has a computer. Node users have already been trained. All types of citizen and official applications are being received at the front desk through LAN and services are being provided from the front desk at the time of disposal. Easy access to services has been ensured to the people through district e-service centers. E-services have already been launched in three upazila headquarters of Barishal district. With the launch of e-service center, a huge response has been noticed among the people. This has reduced the harassment of the people on the one hand and increased the dynamism of the administration on the other hand and ensured transparency and accountability.
